ISLAMABAD: Several politicians working on key government posts were among the 8,041 beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
The political figures whose cases have been revived after Wednesday’s Supreme Court decision include President Asif Ali Zardari, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad, Pakistan People’s Party-Sherpao chief Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Farooq Sattar, Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghauri, Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Minister of State for Housing Tariq Anees, PPP Secretary General Jehangir Badar and former premier Benazir Bhutto’s mother Nusrat Bhutto.
Others whose cases have been revived include MNA Nawaz Yousaf Talpur, former MNA Malik Mushtaq Ahmed Awan, former MNA Rana Nazir Ahmed, former MPA Mian Rashid, former MPA Tariq Mehmood Dina, former Sindh education minister Agha Sirajuddin, former provincial minister Ghaniur Rehman, former senator Haji Gulsher, former provincial minister Habibullah Khan Kundi, former MNA Mir Baz Muhammad Khan, former federal minister Anwar Saifullah Khan, former provincial minister Sardar Mansoor Laghari, former Sargodha mayor Chaudhry Abdul Hameed, former Zila Council (Lahore) chairman Chaudhry Shaukat Ali, former MNA Haji Kabir and former Zila Council (Lahore) chairman Chaudhry Zulfiqar.
